about

As it is often the case at Too Soon Tapes, this cassette contains the history of tracks composed a long time ago and stored on hard disks. Without the intervention of Enir Da, with whom he played tirelessly during their years in Berlin, Kenuwefa's music would never have reached this point. This album could have taken any form of direction but it stabilized in this one, a concentrate of moments, like turning pages, like pieces of memory that crumble away.

It is one of those albums that are difficult to categorize but the effort to do so allows you to feel what makes its power of fascination. Kenuwefa is part of the line of groups that have articulated electronic music with an orchestral dimension inspired by jazz and blues. While the music of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble or Hidden Orchestra has an electric, binary and drum-focused aspect, that of Kenuwefa evolves on the liquid side. Its armature is minimal, made up of swirls and syncopations, which refer directly to the English currents inherited from jungle music. The coherence is due to the contrast between the thickness of the instrumentations, voice samples and delicate guitar ornaments, and the sobriety of the structure, a fluid and primitive dub whose repetition blurs all markers.

At Kenuwefa, the trance aesthetic combines extra-Western influences with a hushed, organic tonality. Between ellipses and vignettes of stories, Kenuwefa's pieces are melodic capsules that open onto lush worlds telling a story without words, experienced only by the senses.
